Terms and Conditions

What will you get from me:

  • I will provide a written record of the agreed service before work begins

  • Whilst undertaking a project I will keep in regular contact with the client

  • I will complete projects within a reasonable time limit

  • I will work a set number of hours/to a package as agreed prior to work starting.  I will not work beyond these hours or beyond the agreements of the contract without written permission.

  • I will work in accordance with GDPR regulations, the AGRA code of practice and the genealogical proof standard (https://www.gov.uk/data-protection/ https://www.agra.org.uk/about-code-of-practice / https://www.findmypast.co.uk/blog/help/do-you-bide-by-the-genealogical-proof-standard)

  • I will keep all work completely confidential and will not share it with anyone else without your written permission

  • I will be honest with you about what I can and cannot do and will not take on a project which I feel is beyond my skills set

  • If I feel that I cannot complete a project to a satisfactory standard then I will consider a deduction of up to 25% from the final cost  (this is completely at my discretion)

What I expect of clients:

  • I will not conduct research into or share details of people who are living or are suspected to be living

  • I reserve the right to refuse work

  • In the case of package work I ask for a 25% deposit (deducted from the overall fee). I will not start work until this has been paid

  • Where ‘Packages’ mention five generations, the first generation is considered to the youngest ancestor/ancestors alive at the time of the 1911 census. Although I am happy to make note of generations after this, the first full report section will concern this generation and will thereafter work backwards for a further four generations.

  • I will endeavor to act in a way which is sensitive, but will hold no responsibility for any distress caused by discoveries (for instance, if an ancestor is found to be illegitimate)

  • I will undertake work on the understanding that results are not guaranteed and that I am limited by surviving/available historical material.

  • Where packaged work refers to ‘expenses’ this includes costs related directly to the project such as travel and printing. Any expenses above the contracted amount will be agreed in writing with the client and charged to them, separate from expenses covered by the contract.

  • Expenses included within packaged work are non-refundable and cannot be exchanged for cash or credit

  • I will be paid within a reasonable time limit (unless I have previously agreed otherwise this will be within 14 days of project completion)

  • The full amount (less any deposit or deduction previously paid/agreed) will be due

  • Completed work (including Reports) may not be duplicated, published or otherwise shared without written permission. I reserve the right to to charge for any additional copies of completed work.

  • If I have any reason to suspect that these terms and conditions have been breached I reserve the right to refuse to undertake work, to stop any ongoing work and/or to withhold work which has been completed
